Spit Braai Menu
The Taurus spit braai menu is built around one centrepiece — a whole lamb turning on a stainless gas spit, or jumbo chicken leg quarters on the budget option — plus roast baby potatoes and onions, garlic bread and salads chosen when you book.
Minimum 40 guests · gas cook about 2 hours (traditional 7–8 hours) · 50% non-refundable deposit · R300 travel levy beyond 40 km return from N1 City
What the spit braai menu includes
Every option on the spit braai menu is priced per function rather than from a published rand-per-person rate card, so the menu below describes what arrives rather than what it costs. Ask for a written quote against your date, suburb and headcount and you get the figure for that job.
| Option | On the spit | Served with |
|---|---|---|
| Option 1 | Whole lamb, marinated | Roast baby potatoes and onions |
| Option 2 | Whole lamb, marinated | Roast baby potatoes and onions, garlic bread, two salads |
| Budget option | Jumbo chicken leg quarters, basted | Garlic bread, two salads |
| Option 3 | Whole lamb, marinated | Roast potatoes and onions, garlic bread, three premium salads |
The three premium salads on Option 3
- Mixed leaf with caramelised pear, fig and gorgonzola
- Couscous with baby spinach, corn and chickpea
- Sweet potato with toasted coconut, nuts and a mild curry dressing
On Options 2 and the budget option you choose two salads at booking rather than three. Salad choices and how they balance a rich spit lamb are covered on the salads and sides page.
Choosing between lamb and chicken
Whole lamb is the centrepiece most functions book, and it is what the carving station is built around. The jumbo chicken option exists to bring the per-function cost down without dropping the spit itself — the birds still roast in the spitbraai machine and are still carved on site. The two differ mainly in cook time and how much meat lands per guest; both are set out under the meat pages.
How the cook runs on the day
Gas brings a whole lamb to the table in about two hours against seven to eight over traditional coals, which is why arrival times and eating times are set from the gas figure. We set up, manage the cook and carve when your guests are ready. Space, power and access notes per suburb sit on the areas pages, and the commercial terms — deposit, levy, minimum headcount — are on spit braai prices.
Spit braai menu FAQs
Can I change the salads on the spit braai menu?
Yes — salads are chosen when you book, so tell us what you want at that point rather than on the day.
Is there a vegetarian option on the menu?
The published options are built around the spit, so vegetarian requirements are handled per function. Say how many vegetarian guests you have on the quote request and we will price it in.
Do you publish a per-person price for the menu?
No. Taurus does not publish a rand-per-person rate card. Choose Option 1, Option 2, the budget chicken option or Option 3 and request a written quote for your date and suburb.
Is there a travel levy?
Yes — a travel levy of R300 is charged for any function exceeding a 40 km return trip from the N1 City area.
